A 10th class student from Uttar Pradesh, Prachi Nigam was declared the topper with 591/600 marks in UP boards. However, rather than focusing on her brilliant academic merit, trollers mocked her for her facial hair. Some suggested the young girl focus on grooming, while others used objectionable terms for her.
But, thankfully some netizens also came in to defend her, saying that school girls should mostly focus on academics and grooming can wait.
Excessive facial hair in women is generally caused by a condition known as hirsutism. It can be caused by various factors.
Hormonal imbalances: Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), adrenal gland disorders, and thyroid disorders can lead to hormonal imbalances, resulting in excessive facial hair growth.
Genetics: Some women may have a genetic predisposition to hirsutism, meaning that their family history includes members who also experience excessive hair growth.
Medications: Certain medications, such as corticosteroids, testosterone supplements, and some hormonal contraceptives, can cause or exacerbate hirsutism as a side effect.
Insulin resistance: Insulin resistance, often associated with conditions like PCOS and obesity, can lead to increased levels of insulin and androgens (male hormones), contributing to excessive facial hair growth.
Idiopathic hirsutism: In some cases, the cause of hirsutism may not be identifiable, and it is referred to as idiopathic hirsutism. This condition may be related to increased sensitivity of hair follicles to normal levels of androgens.
