According to a study conducted by Edith Cowan University, Vitamin K1 may help reduce the risk of fractures.
For the study, researchers analysed vitamin K1 intake and fracture-related hospitalisations in 1,400 participants.
They found that people who ate more than 100 micrograms of vitamin K1 (equivalent to about 125g of dark leafy vegetables) were 31 per cent less likely to have any fracture compared to participants who consumed less than 60 micrograms per day.
Essential for maintaining healthy bones, vitamin K1 is found in leafy green vegetables such as broccoli, green beans, kale and spinach as well as fruits such as prunes, kiwis and avocados.
