Summer is here, and it's time to indulge in juicy watermelons to keep our bodies hydrated during the hot season. But do you know that you should keep watermelons at room temperature rather than in your fridge?

Researchers at the USDA's South Central Agricultural Research Laboratory in Lane, Oklahoma, conducted a 14-day study on various popular watermelon varieties. They tested storage conditions at temperatures of 70, 55, and 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Their findings revealed that watermelons stored at 70 degrees Fahrenheit retained significantly more nutrients compared to freshly picked ones or those kept in refrigerators.

They explain that watermelon continues to produce some nutrients even after being picked up. Refrigerating the fruit slows down or stops the whole process. Moreover, a cut watermelon should never be placed inside the fridge as it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria.
