Experiencing oily hair shortly after washing? Well, it doesn't mean you should rush to rewash or increase wash frequency. Try a smarter approach—seek out specific ingredients to bid farewell to those greasy hair days!

Dermatologist Dr. Jushya Bhatia Sarin, sharing her expertise on Instagram, suggests making small adjustments to your hair care products to combat an oily scalp.

She advises, "Check your shampoo for ingredients like selenium sulfide and zinc. These are excellent for reducing oil production on your scalp. Salicylic acid also works wonders in removing overall oil build-up. Opt for a shampoo enriched with these ingredients to keep greasiness at bay."

Recommended Shampoos: Lupizol ZS shampoo, Logidruf S shampoo, Selsun shampoo.

However, if the recommended shampoos don't provide relief, consulting a doctor for topical/oral medications is advisable, she concluded.

Why does the scalp become oily?

  • Environmental humidity
  • Inherited tendency, particularly in individuals with large sebaceous glands, leading to increased hair oiliness.
  • Excessive physical activity can also stimulate excess oil production.
  • Stress can contribute to heightened oil production due to its impact on hormones like cortisol
