Zero shadow day is not anything new anymore. With social media and the internet, people are becoming aware of things which we had not heard or known earlier. And zero shadow day is one such phenomenon.
However, for those who are unaware, let us tell you that Bengaluru is going to witness yet another Zero Shadow Day on August 18 this year. This means nothing will cast a shadow on that day despite the presence of the sun. You must be wondering, how is that even possible. Aren’t you? Now let us tell you why.
On Zero Shadow Day, the sun stays exactly above the head, so when the shadow is cast, it is below the feet and exactly below the thing of which the shadow is, and hence is not visible.
Zero shadow day is an astronomical phenomenon, and it is limited to places between the tropics. It is formed only between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. The event happens twice a year in Bengaluru. The last time it happened in Bengaluru was April 25 this year. It also took place in Hyderabad on August 4.
