Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra has accepted that the car seen running over farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in a viral video was indeed his.

The minister has, however, maintained that his son Ashish Mishra was not in it when the incident happened.

A viral video showed an SUV running over a group farmers on Sunday. It was not clear in the video who the driver was.

In an interview to NDTV, Mishra once again insisted that neither he nor his son was present at the spot. The minister claimed that there are photos and videos to prove that his son was busy with some other event at the time of Lakhimpur violence.

Farmers have alleged that Ashish Mishra had rammed his car in to a group of protesting farmers.

Ashish has been named in the police complaint into the deadly violence, and has been booked for murder.

Violence took place on Sunday when a group of protesting farmers in the Tikonia area of Kheri tried to block Mishra and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya from visiting. The protesters were upset over a recent speech by Mishra where he had threatened to fix protesting farmer in two minutes.
