Amid fears that a third wave of Covid-19 may target children, the govt is closely observing the cases among children. Chairman of the National Expert Committee on Vaccine Administration Dr VK Paul on Tuesday said that most children who contract the disease are asymptomatic.
He, however, added that in some cases the virus can affect them in two ways. First, they report pneumonia-like symptoms, and secondly, in some cases of a multi-inflammatory syndrome has been found among children after recovering from Covid-19, he said.
Dr Paul said that in very rare cases, six weeks after recovery, some children get fever again, along with rashes and vomiting.
He maintained that children generally have minimal or nil symptoms and infection has not taken a serious shape in them.
While the first Covid wave had mainly targetted the elderly, the second wave took a toll on the younger population.
