Pushing the total tally to 34.49 lakh, Kerala recorded 23,676 fresh Covid cases on Tuesday.
The southern state had reported little less than 14,000 cases on Monday after six consecutive days of 20,000 plus cases.
In the last week, 49.85% of the total cases reported in the country have been from Kerala.
Epidemiologists and public health experts have cautioned that this rise may be the beginning of the 3rd wave of the pandemic for the state.
The Pinarayi Vijayan government has acknowledged the trend but assert that they are still in the second Covid-19 wave.
However, anticipating the next wave, preparations have begun. Local bodies have resumed Covid 1st and 2nd line treatment centres while private bodies have reopened Covid wards. District administration is working on micro-containment zones in places with Covid clusters.
