One of the oldest religious leaders of the country, Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom died in Kerala's Thiruvalla on Wednesday at the age of 103.
The senior-most Metropolitan of the Malankara Marthoma church headquartered in Thiruvalla, Chrysostom was often called the priest of wit and wisdom. In his speeches full of sarcasm, humour and wit, he often lampooned rigid belief and system in society.
Chrysostom exhorted believers to live a happy and contented life instead of complaining, and always stood for the secular values.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan has offered condolence calling his death a big loss to the country.
