According to a study published in the journal Stroke, patients with low blood pressure and non-cardiovascular conditions have a higher risk of death after stroke.

For the study, researchers identified nearly 30,000 veteran patients for 18 months. They divided the patients by blood pressure categories and followed them over time for the outcomes of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. It was observed that higher death risks occurred in patients who smoked, had dementia or cancer.
Researchers concluded that enhanced mortality risk has been the outcome for both very high and very low blood pressure patients. Further investigations on factors that lead to death after stroke would help patients and doctors deal with proper diagnosis and treatment.
