The epic battles of Tololing, Tiger Hill were recounted, as 559 lamps were lit in a tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War at the war memorial in Drass on Sunday. The event marked the 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas as top military officers, family members of the army personnel and others, joined in.

Later in the evening, a fusion of military bands put up a display which was followed by a solemn 'Beating the Retreat' ceremony.

The trailer of Captain Vikram Batra's biopic, 'Shershaah' , produced by Dharma Productions was also released at the event.

India celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26 every year to mark the anniversary of the Indian Army's victory against Pakistan on this day in 1999, after more than 60 days of armed conflict on the highlands of Kargil in Ladakh.
