Kanpur realtor death: amid demands for arrest for accused cops, UP govt recommends CBI probe

The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday recommended a CBI probe into the death of Kanpur businessman Manish Gupta. Till the central agency takes over the probe, the case will be transferred from Gorakhpur to Kanpur and will be investigated by a specially constituted special investigation team.

36-year-old realtor Manish Gupta died after allegedly being assaulted by the police at a Gorakhpur hotel which they had raided on Monday night. Six officials have been booked in a murder case and suspended from service.

Meanwhile, there is massive outrage against the alleged brutality with netizens and politicians demanding immediate arrest of all six accused policemen.
