The seven-party Gupkar alliance led by Farooq Abdullah is headed to a big win in the J&K District Development Council polls. The alliance has won 100 seats out of 280 and is leading in 12 more. The BJP has emerged as the single largest party as it won 73 seats, including three in the Kashmir valley for the first time. This is the first time that the BJP has registered a poll win in the Valley. The Congress has so far won 22 seats and is leading in five others. The Gupkar alliance and the Congress are set to win 13 district councils while the BJP and its allies are set to take six districts.
