A two-minute silence was observed across Israel on Thursday to remember those who lost their lives in the Holocaust. In memory of the six million Jews killed by Nazi Germany and its collaborators in World War II, Israel ushered in its Holocaust Remembrance Day. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was joined by President Reuven Rivlin at a ceremony in Jerusalem.
The sombre day was also marked elsewhere in the country, as buses and cars halted on streets and highways as Israelis stepped out of their vehicles and stood with heads bowed.
