With strike rates proving to be as important as the number of runs in T20 cricket, former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody wants the Orange cap winner to be decided using a combination of both runs & strike rate.

Currently, the orange cap is awarded to the highest run-scorer of an IPL season but the former Aussie all-rounder believes since strike rate is more valuable in the shortest format, it should also be considered.

He also tweeted that it’s the only way middle-order batters will also be in contention.

Moody’s comments came after David Warner laboured to yet another fifty against Mumbai Indians. Warner, who is among the top 5 run-getters of IPL 2023, has averaged over 50 but his strike rate of less than 115 hasn’t helped the Delhi Capitals, who have lost their first 4 matches.

Meanwhile, Mr. 360, AB de Villiers also agreed with Moody. Replying to the Aussie’s tweet, de Villiers wrote that he has ‘been saying this for ages’ and the orange cap is currently a competition only between the openers and the number 3 batters.
