Another season, another ride — but this one hit different.  The 18th edition of the IPL had it all: heartbreaks, breakout stars, teams finding their groove way too late, and one long-awaited redemption arc.

Played across 74 matches from March to June, IPL 2025 saw dream runs crash, underdogs rise, and the king himself, Virat Kohli, finally lift the trophy that had eluded him forever. If you missed it or blinked, we have got you covered- Here’s a no-fluff recap of how things went down in the #IPL2025

RCB Break The 'Curse'

Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally ended their title drought. Kohli didn’t go full beast mode in the final (a slow 43 off 35), but RCB got the job done. Their auction strategy hit different this time — every player clicked when it mattered.

Kohli ended with 657 runs this season, crossing 600+ for the 5th time. His overall IPL run tally? A ridiculous 9,085 — all for RCB. Icon status: locked.

The depth in the team can be judged by the fact that 9 team members in their team were adjudged the man of the match

Punjab Kings Level Up

Shreyas Iyer was that guy. Calm, consistent (604 runs, avg 50.33), and sharp as a leader. He truly was a SARPANCH for his team. It was no surprise to see that he was the anchor of the perennial strugglers' remarkable turnaround.

Along with coach Ricky Ponting, he turned Punjab from perennial underachievers to finalists. They didn’t win, but this version of PBKS isn’t going away anytime soon.

Mumbai Being Mumbai

Started the season like they forgot how cricket works. They registered only one win in their first five matches, then suddenly remembered and went on to win six straight games. This season has been a rollercoaster for the Rohit Sharma-led side. They ended their campaign in the 4th position...
But SKY was lit!
He scored 717 runs, which was a new high for any MI batter.

Gujarat Titans Fade Late

They bossed the league early. Gill, Buttler, Sudharsan, and Prasidh Krishna looked unbeatable.
But come the playoffs? Nada. At one point top-two finish looked a mere formality, but the Titans ended third in the league.. played the eliminator and were humbled by the Mumbai Indians.

Young Talent, Big Impact

The 2025 IPL season saw several young players make headlines with standout performances. Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi, only 14 years old, etched his name into the record books by scoring the fastest IPL century by an Indian — a blistering hundred off just 35 balls. Punjab Kings’ uncapped batter Priyansh Arya also impressed with a commanding century against Chennai Super Kings. Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh continued to showcase their batting prowess, further strengthening their reputations as future stars. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre provided glimpses of his potential for CSK, emerging as one of the few bright spots in an otherwise challenging season for the franchise.

Sai Sudharsan’s Main Character Era

Sai Sudharsan fully unlocked this season. No wild swings, no drama — just smart, calculated hitting every time he stepped out. His calm-but-deadly approach paid off big as he bagged the Orange Cap with a massive 759 runs, including a ton and six fifties, averaging over 54 with a strike rate north of 156. Consistency? Off the charts. The reward? A well-earned national Test call-up for the England tour. Guy’s not just knocking — he’s kicking the door down.

Sunrisers Go Full Send... and Crash

Last season’s runner-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), entered the tournament with one of the most formidable batting line-ups on paper. Their aggressive, all-out attacking approach made an early statement, posting a massive 286/6 against Rajasthan Royals — the second-highest total in IPL history — and later registering 278/3 against Kolkata Knight Riders, the third-highest. However, despite these explosive performances, SRH’s campaign exposed a critical gap: the lack of a reliable Plan B with the bat. When their high-risk strategy didn’t click, the team struggled to adapt, ultimately undermining their consistency and impact across the season.

Nothing really worked from CSK

Change may be the only constant, but for Chennai Super Kings, embracing it came a little too late.
In this season, Dhoni’s side found themselves slipping out of playoff contention earlier than they would have hoped ..However, it's not that everything bad happened for the Yellow brigade.
17-year-old Aravelly Avanish Mhatre showed maturity beyond his years, while Dewald Brevis brought flair and firepower in the closing stages. In the spin department, it wasn’t the seasoned duo of R Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja who stood out — it was 20-year-old Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad who made the biggest impact, leading the way with grit and guile.

RR & KKR: Season to Forget

RR: Injuries, inconsistency, and bad calls — finished 9th. Letting go of Buttler, Ashwin, Chahal, and Boult hurt their vibe and balance.

KKR: Ajinkya Rahane tried his best, but Venkatesh Iyer flopped hard. Mid-season blues took them out quietly.

DC's High Hopes, Hard Fall
Started like title favourites (5 wins in 6), then fell flat. Couldn’t stay consistent when pressure kicked in.

Not the season for LSG
For Rishabh Pant, the season did not go as planned. But Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram gave them substance.. and yes- let us not forget Digvesh Rathi's theatrics.
