Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla on Monday said that majority of the first 50 million doses of the Covid vaccine that the company is producing will go to India. Serum is testing and manufacturing the Oxford vaccine against coronavirus and hopes to get govt approval for emergency use in a few days. Poonawalla has said that at least for the first month, most of the doses will go to India. He added that though the drugmaker has a deal with other COVAX countries, but for exporting it will need approvals from World Health Organisation and licenses. "So, India will receive first," Poonawalla said.
He added that the vaccine shortage would ease by middle of 2021 "because there will be so many manufacturers by then".
