Amid the rising Covid-19 cases in the country, India will focus on meeting domestic vaccine demand and not expand exports for few months, news agency PTI reported quoting sources.
However, all commercial contracts and commitments will be honoured, and exports will depend on the domestic demand. The situation will be reviewed after 2-3 months, sources said.
India started supplying vaccines to foreign countries on January 20 and has so far exported 60.4 million doses to around 80 countries.
As cases surge in many states with the new ‘double mutant’ variant detected in Delhi, Maharashtra amongst other places, the government is ramping up the nationwide inoculation drive. All above 45 years of age will be eligible to get the jab from April 1st.
