India's Omicron tally jumps to 1700, new Covid infections rise by 33,750 in 24 hours

The number of Omicron cases in India has risen to 1,700. The cases of the more infectious Covid-19 variant have been reported in 23 states so far, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Maharashtra has reported the highest 510 cases so far while Delhi has reported 351 patients. A total of 639 Omicron patients have been discharged so far, the govt said.

Meanwhile, the Covid infections have continued to spike in the country. India on Monday reported 33,750 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, which is 22.5% higher than the previous day, the Health Ministry data showed.

As many as 123 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the total reported death count to 4,81,893.

Number of active Covid-19 cases in country has gone up to 1,45,582. India has seen a sharp spike in Covid infections. Just a week back, on December 26, India had reported just 6,531 cases, and the active case load was 75,841.
