India has breached the grim 2-lakh mark in daily Covid cases. The country logged 2,00,739 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, according to the data released by the health ministry on Thursday morning.
The country has gone from 1 lakh daily infections to 2 lakh in just 10 days. The unprecedented spike has taken the total Covid infections in the country so far to over 1.4 crore. The number of deaths due to the virus remained above 1,000 for the second day in a row taking the total fatalities to over 1.73 lakh.
The active caseload has now soared to over 14.7 lakh. India has been the world's worst-hit country since April 2. India kicked off its inoculation drive in mid-January and has administered more than 11.44 crore shots so far.
