A Delhi court on Thursday quoted Spiderman's Uncle Ben while convicting a cop for taking bribes.
Sub-inspector Gopal Singh of Delhi Police was convicted for demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant Anita for removing her and her husband's name from a complaint against them related to a quarrel which he was investigating.
The court said all witnesses have said the complainant herself gave the officer Rs 80,000 on January 2, 2019, after the amount was decided during a conversation on December 31, 2018.
The court said that the quote 'with great power comes great responsibility' from the movie Spiderman has became an "arduous code of conduct" for public servants, especially police.
The court said power cannot be enjoyed simply for its privileges alone, it makes the holder morally responsible for what they do or don't do with it.
