The two leaders were also seen having a brief conversation as they walked towards their designated seats before the press conference.
All eyes have been on a possible meeting between Modi and Xi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in South Africa as India and China continue to military-level talks to resolve the 2020 border standoff in Ladakh.
