The Bharatiya Janata Party celebrated its 42nd Foundation Day on April 6. While addressing party workers on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that "from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and from Kutch to Kohima", the party is working to "strengthen the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat".

The BJP is coming high off its victories in the recent 5-state elections. The BJP currently rules Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand , Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, and Tripura. The party is part of the ruling coalition in Bihar, Puducherry, Sikkim, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.


The BJP is the largest political party in the world in terms of membership, with over 18 crore claimed members.
