Watch: Lok Sabha Speaker wears mask in Parliament, appeals to MPs to follow Covid advisory

A day after the Union government advised people to start wearing face masks in crowded places, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was seen attending Parliament proceedings while wearing a face mask.

Birla had not sported a face mask in the 2022 Winter Session of Parliament so far.

Appealing to MPs to follow suit, Birla said, "I draw your attention towards resurgence of Covid pandemic in many countries. In light of past experiences of Covid, we must remain alert."

The Speaker added, "The government, in an alacritous manner, has advised people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. I appeal to honourable members to adhere to safety measures, use face masks, and help spread awareness."
