The opening of the doors at Shri Gangotri Dham today is a significant event, as the temple has been beautifully adorned with flowers to mark the occasion. Akshaya Tritiya, celebrated by Hindus and Jains, is considered one of the most auspicious days for new beginnings, symbolizing good fortune and success.

It is a day marked by prayers, alms-giving, and spiritual practices. Traditionally, Akshaya Tritiya is seen as a favorable time for starting new ventures, making investments, or buying gold and real estate.

The name "Akshaya," which means "never diminishing" in Sanskrit, reflects the belief that activities initiated on this day will grow endlessly and encounter fewer obstacles. Celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaisakh, it usually falls in April or May on the Gregorian calendar, and is considered a time when both the sun and the moon align perfectly.

This year, Akshaya Tritiya, also known as 'Akha Teej,' is being observed on May 10. The day is regarded as highly auspicious, with the belief that tasks begun on this day will yield eternal success and prosperity. It also marks the birth anniversary of Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Hindu scriptures associate Akshaya Tritiya with several significant events, including the beginning of the Treta Yuga and the end of the Dwapar Yuga. Furthermore, the occasion is linked to the mythological story where Lord Krishna blessed Draupadi with an ever-replenishing vessel during the Pandavas' exile.
