Thane, December 5 (PTI) - A case of human trafficking has been filed against a brick kiln owner in Thane district of Maharashtra for allegedly coercing three individuals, including two women, into bonded labor, police reported on Friday.
Authorities revealed that the accused, Pandari Patil, who owns a brick kiln in Chinchavli, Bhiwandi, forcibly took away the three victims from another brick kiln despite their objections.
The individuals reportedly had taken an advance from Patil and agreed to return the money. However, Patil allegedly insisted they work for him instead, according to the police.
Following a complaint, the police registered charges against Patil under section 143 for trafficking a person and 351(2) for criminal intimidation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He is also charged under the provisions of the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
