Sylvester daCunha, the man behind Amul Girl, dies

Sylvester daCunha, advertising veteran and the man behind the iconic Amul Girl campaign, died in Mumbai on June 20. 

“Very sorry to inform about the sad demise of Shri Sylvester daCunha, Chairman of daCunha Communications last night at Mumbai. A doyen of the Indian advertising industry who was associated with Amul since the 1960s. The Amul family joins in mourning this sad loss,” Amul managing director Jayen Mehta took to Twitter to share the news.

daCunha started working with Amul in the 1960s. He is also known to have pioneered the concept of topical advertising or moment marketing. The Amul girl advertisement, which began in 1966, is one of the longest continuously running advertising campaigns in the world.
