A young woman doctor died allegedly by suicide on December 5 after her groom who was also her boyfriend backed out of the wedding citing dowry as the reason.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George ordered a probe into the death of the 26-year-old Shahana, a postgraduate doctor who was a student in the surgery department of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
The Medical College Police informed that a case of unnatural death had been registered after she was found unconscious at her apartment and was later declared 'brought dead' at the hospital.
The groom's family allegedly demanded gold, a BMW car and 15 acres of land in dowry. The groom who was also a doctor in the same facility broke the marriage after her family failed to fulfil the demands.
