Saif Ali Khan attack: Mumbai Police detains a suspect, later says he is 'not related to the case'

In a twist to the investigation into the recent attack on actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence, Mumbai Police detained a suspect on Friday morning but later clarified that the individual had no connection to the case.

The police continue their hunt for the intruder, who left the actor injured during a burglary attempt at his home.

Authorities confirmed that they had recovered a portion of the blade that had been removed from Saif's back, while efforts to locate the remaining piece are still ongoing.

The suspect was last seen near the Bandra railway station following the attack, and police suspect he boarded a local train to Vasai Virar. Search operations have been launched in the Vasai, Nalasopara, and Virar areas.

The attack occurred early on Thursday morning at around 2:30 am when an intruder confronted the actor's maid at his 11th-floor flat. Saif attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, but things turned violent, leading to him being stabbed multiple times.

The actor was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a 2.5-inch-long knife lodged in his spine, causing a serious injury to his thoracic spinal cord. Doctors confirmed that Saif is out of danger but will remain under close observation in the ICU for continued recovery.

In the FIR registered by Mumbai Police, the maid claimed that the intruder demanded one crore rupees from the family. During the altercation, he allegedly attacked the maid with a hexa blade, injuring her hands. In her statement, she recalled the intruder's demand for money, which he specified in English as "one crore."

The incident unfolded in the early hours of January 16, with the maid describing the attacker approaching Saif’s son and later engaging in the violent confrontation. The police investigation is ongoing, with the search continuing for the suspect.
