The Indian government announced on Thursday that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the chief guest at the 76th Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2025.
This marks his first official visit to India since assuming office in October 2024.
The Ministry of External Affairs revealed that President Subianto will undertake a two-day state visit to India beginning January 25.
During his visit, he will engage with Indian leadership to review the bilateral relations between the two countries and discuss significant regional and global issues.
India and Indonesia have long-standing ties of friendship and cooperation. As Comprehensive Strategic Partners, Indonesia plays an essential role in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific strategy.
Recently, India sent a large consignment of rice to Indonesia to support the country after it faced a severe drought. Additionally, the two nations are working to enhance military and people-to-people connections.
Both countries recognize the strategic importance of the Malacca Straits, a crucial maritime link to the Indian Ocean, and are contemplating joint patrols in this vital region.
President Subianto, a former special forces officer and successful businessman, is expected to further strengthen the robust relationship between India and Indonesia with his visit.
