Jaipur, Dec 5 (PTI): Rajasthan has seen a notable decline in cases filed under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act over the last two years. Police officials credit this reduction to accelerated investigations, prompt registration of FIRs, and the stringent enforcement of new criminal laws. The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) data reveals a 28.23 percent decrease in atrocities against SC/ST communities between November 2023 and November 2025. When compared to November 2024, there is a 17 percent fall in cases, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar Sharma. On Thursday, Sharma stated that 10,273 cases were logged by November 2023, but this number reduced to 7,373 by 2025—a drop of 2,900 cases. In 2024, a total of 8,883 cases were recorded. He described the decrease as a result of "persistent and effective measures" taken by the police following the state government's directives to fortify law and order and improve protections for marginalized communities. The DGP emphasized that the police have taken a strict yet sensitive approach towards handling crimes against SC/ST communities, incorporating rapid FIR registration and expedited investigations. The average investigation time has significantly reduced from 124 days in 2023 to 109 days in 2024, and even further to 75 days in 2025, which Sharma termed as an "unprecedented improvement." He noted that close monitoring of serious offences like murder, rape, abduction, and cases under the SC/ST Act has contributed to the overall fall in crime rates. The Rajasthan Police also aims to conclude cases within 60 days under new criminal laws to ensure victims receive timely justice.
