Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday strongly condemned RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent statement that India attained "true independence" only after the Ram temple consecration, calling it "treason" and an insult to every Indian. Speaking at the inauguration of the new Congress headquarters, Gandhi accused Bhagwat of undermining the independence movement and the Constitution.

Gandhi asserted that in any other country, such remarks would lead to arrest and trial. He emphasized that the Congress has built India’s success on constitutional values and criticized the ruling BJP and RSS for undermining democratic institutions. He also accused the Election Commission of lacking transparency, particularly over discrepancies in voter numbers in Maharashtra.

Highlighting the ongoing "civilisational war," Gandhi urged party workers to spread the ideals symbolized by the new headquarters, stating that only the Congress can effectively challenge the current regime's ideological attacks.
