President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday conferred Bharat Ratna upon BJP veteran LK Advani at his residence in Delhi. He was presented with India's highest civilian award in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.
This year, the central government announced five names for the Bharat Ratna that also included the name of LK Advani.
On Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu conferred Bharat Ratna on former prime ministers P V Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan and two-time former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur, posthumously at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
