The National Commission for Women has summoned Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Ajay Rai for making a controversial remark on Union Minister Smriti Irani.

Rai had said that the minister visits her constituency Amethi only to show her 'latka-jhatka', a colloquial term for dance moves.

Taking suo-moto cognisance, the women's panel has termed the Congress leader's comment 'misogynstic, outrageous and extremely derogatory'.

It has asked Rai to appear before the panel on December 28.
