Congress legislators in the Karnataka Assembly adopted a unique protest tactic amid the presentation of the state Budget on 17 February 2023.

Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah were seen sporting flowers on their ears while incumbent CM Basavaraj Bommai read out the 2023-24 Budget.

According to news agency ANI, the flowers denoted Congress' allegation that the ruling BJP has not fulfilled promises made in earlier Budgets, and also the party's manifesto released ahead of the 2018 elections. Congress claimed that the BJP has cheated the people of the state.

Karnataka is currently in election mode with Assembly polls slated in 2023 summer.
