Following speculation that Sonia Gandhi hinted at her retirement from politics at the Congress' plenary session in Raipur, the party tried to clarify the statement.

Congress leader Alka Lamba on 26 February 2023 reportedly said that she discussed the issue with Sonia Gandhi, who said that she will continue to provide "guidance and blessings" to the party.

A day earlier, Sonia had said that she felt "gratified" that her "innings could conclude" with the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which had come as a "turning point".

Congress leader Kumari Selja had reportedly said that Sonia was talking about the party's presidency.
