New Parliament inauguration: plea filed in Supreme Court against PM Modi doing the honours

The controversy over the inauguration of the new Parliament building intensified on May 25, 2023, as a petition was filed in the Supreme Court.

The public interest litigation sought an order from the top court that the new Parliament should be inaugurated by the President of India, and not Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The petitioner accused the Lok Sabha Secretariat of violating the Constitution by not inviting the President.

Many Opposition parties have said that they will boycott the inauguration on May 28.
