Manipur unrest: Police fire tear gas shells as women protest, burn tyres in Imphal

Police fired tear gas shells in Manipur's Imphal after women protesting over sexual assault video burnt tyres and blocked roads in the Ghari area on Saturday. 

The Manipur armed police, Army and rapid action battalion were rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control prompting them to take action on demonstrators. Following the operation, a flag march too was conducted in several areas to ensure law and order is maintained. 

Tension in the state mounted after a video of two women from the Kuki community surfaced on July 19. The women in the video were publicly molested and were paraded naked by a mob from the Meitei community. 

The state has been witnessing violence since May 3 when ethnic clashes erupted there.
