Karnataka : As many as 9 people were booked amid tension in Karnataka’s Bidar for allegedly breaking into an ancient madrasa, news agency ANI reported.
A group of people who were a part of Dussehra procession had allegedly entered the premises of Mahmud Gawan, a heritage Madrasa, and performed pooja in the early hours of Thursday.
Heavy police deployment was made after purported video clips from the incident surfaced.
Earlier in the day, several muslim organisations comdemned the act and sought action against those involved, failing to which the organisations have warned of massive protests.
Sharing the clip on twitter, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief, Asaduddin Owaisi, slammed Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai government over the incident. Owaisi accused the ruling party of promoting such incidents to “demean Muslims".
The situation in the area is said to be under control, ANI said, quoting additional SP Mahesh Meghannavar.
