Jharkhand BJP leader accused of brutally torturing house help, suspended

Jharkhand BJP women wing leader Seema Patra was suspended by state BJP chief over allegations of brutally torturing her house help. 

Seema Patra was a part of the national working committee of the party's women wing. Patra’s suspension was ordered by state BJP chief Deepak Prakash. Patra’s husband is a retired IAS officer. 

A video of the house help, identified as Sunita, has gone viral on social media. The viral video showed the victim lying on the hospital bed, with  bruises all over her body and several of her teeths missing. The woman, speaking through immense pain, recalled that she was beaten up with a hot tawa and rods. 

According to media reports, Sunita was employed by the accused family 10 years ago. She moved to Delhi as a help with Patra’s daughter. Both of them returned to Ranchi 4-years later. Over the next 6 years Sunita was subjected to torture by the BJP leader. 

The matter came to light after Patra’s son helped her, said Sunita. 

No official complaint in the matter has been registered.
