The war of words between India's foreign minister and a former Chief Minister over the Sudan civil war intensified on April 18, 2023.

It started with Congress leader Siddaramaiah claiming that more than 30 Indians from Karnataka were stuck in Sudan and the Modi government was not helping them.

Minister Jaishankar said that he was "appalled" that Siddaramaiah was playing "politics" on the issue.

Subsequently, the Congress leader said that if Jaishankar is "busy getting appalled", he should name the person who can help bring the Indians back.
