Amid BJP's allegations that the Congress party's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' is a bid to relaunch Rahul Gandhi, the former Congress president responded to queries whether he would officially lead the Opposition party again.

Gandhi, on 9 September 2022, said that he has made his decision on the matter, and he will reply when the Congress president election takes place. Gandhi said that the elections would make it clear whether he will be party chief or not.

Rahul Gandhi had quit as Congress president in 2019, taking moral responsibility for the party's poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections.

He is currently taking part in a 150-day march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, covering 3,570 km over 12 states. He said he was not leading the yatra, and was only participating in it. Gandhi also said it is the responsibility of everyone in the Opposition to work for the country.
