AAP vs BJP showdown in the national capital, Delhi Police detain protesters

Protests by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi against alleged corruption in the Arvind Kejriwal government turned violent, as party workers breached barricades and clashed with the police.

Footage showed Delhi Police personnel struggling to control a massive crowd outside the headquarters of the Aam Aadmi Party on the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg. Security personnel eventually detained several protesters who were taken away in police vans.

A few hundred metres down the road, outside BJP headquarters, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led AAP protests against alleged "cheating" in the Chandigarh Mayoral election. Police detained several AAP workers from the protest site, in addition to those deatined en route to the demonstration.

The showdown in Central Delhi left commuters stranded in long traffic jams as police barricaded roads and diverted vehicles.
