Now getting a police verification for passport will no longer be a tedious task. People can now apply online for police clearance certificates at Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) which starts on Wednesday, September 28.
The External Affairs Ministry the action has been taken to bolster the processs given the unprecedented surge in demand for police clearance. It added that the move will also improve the availability of PPC appointment slots at an earlier daye
The procedure to get police clearance is a mandatory one, as officials need to go throught applicant's criminal records, if any, before letting them possess a passport.
Earlier, applicants could apply for online clearances only throught Centre's Passport Seva portal. While for those residing abroad, one could apply through the Indian Embassy or High Commission.
