Prime Minister Narendra Modi recounted the history of the old Parliament building as he addressed the Lok Sabha during the special session.
The Lok Sabha is discussing the 75-year journey of India's Parliament.
'Before we move to the new Parliament, I want to take this opportunity to recall India’s 75-year parliamentary journey and remember the inspirational moments. All members of Parliament will soon move out of this historic chamber. Before Independence, this building housed the Imperial Legislative Council. It was transformed into the Indian Parliament after independence,' Modi said.
He also spoke about how the building was commissioned by the British but it was the sweat of Indians that built it.

'Foreign rulers ordered the construction of this building but we can never forget… We can proudly say India’s sweat, effort and money were behind the construction of this Parliament. Our 75-year journey in this Parliament has witnessed numerous democratic traditions. Everyone who has occupied this chamber has also actively participated in it. We will soon move to the new parliament, but this building will always continue to inspire future generations,' he said
