PM Modi leaves for USA: major defence deals likely in first-ever 'state visit'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for his highly-anticipated trip to the United States of America on the morning of June 20, 2023.

Before emplaning for New York, PM Modi tweeted that he is seeking to deepen India-US ties in key sectors like trade, commerce, innovation, technology, and other areas.

Major defence deal announcements are expected during the trip. These may include a pact to make fighter jet engines in India, and also a supply of Predator attack drones to India.

During his first state visit to the US, PM Modi will address the US Congress, and also participate in a Yoga Day event, apart from interacting with Indian-Americans.
