In what would be an unprecedented intervention, a group of former Chief Election Commissioners are actively considering writing to PM Narendra Modi regarding their concerns about the proposed CEC Bill scheduled for passage in Parliament next week.

The Bill aims to downgrade the service conditions of the CEC and Election Commissioners, aligning their salaries and service conditions with those of a Cabinet Secretary, as opposed to the current equivalence to a Supreme Court Judge.

The communication is reportedly in its final stages and is signed by at least three former CECs, as per an Indian Express report.
