Kovind-led panel favours 'one nation, one poll', submits report

A high-level committee headed by former president Ram Nath Kovind submitted its report on the feasibility of holding simultaneous polls for Lok Sabha, state assemblies and local bodies across the country on March 14. 

The report submitted to President Murmu suggest a 3-tier approach for holding simultaneous polls. The report says that the first step should be holding Lok Sabha and assembly elections together. The panel suggested that the second step should be conducting locals polls within 100 days of the general and state elections.

The panel has suggested that for the first simultaneous polls, tenure of all state assemblies can be for period ending up to subsequent Lok Sabha elections.
