Shiv Sena (UBT) on Thursday said that the basis of the Uniform Civil Code cannot just be opposition to Sharia.

In an editorial in its mouthpiece ‘Saamna’, Uddhav Thackeray-led party said that the Prime Minister should first respect uniform law by disqualifying 40 MLAs including Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Further, it also questioned the misuse of institutions by the central government. This comes in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pitch for the Uniform Civil Code on June 28.

Prime Minister Modi in his address to BJP workers on June 27 alleged that opposition parties were misleading the Muslims.
