The third session of the seventeenth Odisha Assembly is set to begin on February 13, with Speaker Surama Padhy issuing a stern warning against disruptions during the upcoming Budget Session. She urged the Opposition to focus on constructive discussions, cautioning that disorderly behavior would lead to action.
The Speaker’s statement drew sharp criticism from Opposition leaders. Deputy Chief Whip Pratap Deb called her remarks “ridiculous,” asserting that it is the Speaker’s responsibility to manage the house. Opposition leader Pramila Malik accused the Speaker of attempting to stifle dissent, stating, “Showing red eyes will not silence the Opposition’s voice.”
The session will commence with the Governor’s address on the first day, followed by discussions on February 14 and 15. The Budget is scheduled to be presented on February 17, and the standing committee report will be tabled on March 7. The assembly will have 28 working days in total.
